Sociology welcomes Law and Society Program Coordinator, Dr. Ted McCoy

The Department of Sociology is pleased to welcome Dr. Ted McCoy as an instructor in and Coordinator of the Law and Society Program.

Dr. McCoy earned his PhD from Trent University in 2011.His research explores prison history with a focus on violence and resistance, prison reform, and prison medicine. Dr. McCoy’s publications include articles on legal ideology and colonial violence in Histoire sociale/social History, and the relationships between labour and prison medicine in Labor.

Dr. McCoy’s first book was published in 2012 and is entitled Hard Time: Reforming the Penitentiary in Nineteenth Century Canada. His current work explores the history of gender segregation within Canadian federal penitentiaries between 1835 and 1935.
