Admissions

The Faculty of Graduate Studies Application Form is to be completed on-line, signed and mailed to the Graduate Program Administrator (see contact information). Applications are not to be sent to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

In addition to the completed on-line application form, the Department of Sociology requires the following items:

  1. Sample of written work.
  2. The Scholarship Application form (if you are a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident and you are applying by the January 15 scholarship deadline).
  3. application fee of $100 for Canadian citizens and permanent residents or $130 (Canadian funds) for international students.

Please note that it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure that all documents arrive in a timely fashion for full consideration.

Forms:

All Faculty of Graduate Studies forms, including: admissions, annual progress reports, convocation, examinations, proctored examinations, leave of absence, registration, scholarships, supervision, thesis requirements, withdrawal, etc., may be obtained at the Faculty of Graduate Studies website.

Policies and Procedures:

The Faculty of Graduate Studies website contains a lot of information with respect to the policies and procedures concerning: Appeals, Appointments Schedule, Conflict of Interest, Deadlines, English Language Proficiency, Examinations, Intellectual Property, Interdisciplinary Degrees, Handbook of Supervision and Examination, Scholarships, Special Case Admissions, Special Registration Status, Supervisors, Thesis, and the Western Deans' Agreement. All of these documents may be obtained on-line from the Faculty of Graduate Studies website (policies and procedures).

Fees:

The Faculty of Graduate Studies website answers most questions with respect to fees and how fees are broken down.

Funding:

The Faculty of Graduate Studies provides general information with respect to funding opportunities and policies. For more specifics regarding the funding policy at the Department level, please check the funding section of this site.

Student Services:

The Faculty of Graduate Studies website lists a number of services for graduate students, including: the bookstore, Campus Recreation, Campus Security and Identification Office, Career Services, Chaplains, Commedia, Counselling and Student Development Centre, Disability Resource Centre, Information Technologies, International Student Centre, library, Medical Sciences Graduate Students' Association, Native Centre, Parking Services, Residence Services, Students' Union Copy Centre, and University Health Services.
