An Introduction to Statistics for Canadian Social Scientists

Dr. Jean Wallace, along with Dr. Marisa Young and Alicia J. Polachek (both were former MA students at the U of C, within the Department of Sociology) have been recognized for outstanding family research and will be honoured with the Reuben Hill Award.

Between September 20 and October 5, 2016 students enrolled in Sociology of Poverty set out to plan and facilitate small fundraisers to generate funding for the Calgary Dream Center’s Toonies for Turkeys campaign.

Amal Madibbo, a professor in the sociology department at the University of Calgary, is going to be honoured by being recognized as one of 100 “Accomplished Black Canadian Women” for 2016. 

Bio: Dr. Pallavi Banerjee sees sociology as a discipline that “…can be liberating and transformative”. She joins the Department of Sociology after earning her PhD from the University of Illinois, Chicago.

The University of Calgary’s Department of Sociology have had several award winners this Spring.

The University of Calgary’s Department of Sociology held its Undergraduate Honours Symposium on April 12th, 2016. The theme of the symposium was “New Horizons in Undergraduate Research”. 

On April 7th 2016, students enrolled in Sociology of Homelessness once again presented the results of their semester-long research in MacEwan Hall to the University of Calgary student community.

The University of Calgary, Department of Sociology held its 12th Annual Graduate Student Research Symposium on March 3rd and 4th, 2016.

Lloyd Wong has co-edited (with Shibao Guo) and contributed to an edited volume that has just been published. The collection is titled "Revisiting Multiculturalism in Canada: Theories, Policies and Debates".
