- Masters Student
In the Urban Field School she received the opportunity for first hand exploration of urban issues, including urban sprawl, density, mixed use, public transportation, poverty, and gentrification in both San Francisco and Calgary. She was able to interact with various professionals in related fields, as well participating in a seminar with students from the University of California, Berkley. Following these experiences she then completed an independent research project on the governments' role in affordable housing, including interviews with the former Chief Administrative Officer of Wood Buffalo Housing and Development corporation in Fort McMurray and the Executive Director of Capital Region Housing Corporation. Throughout the field school she was able to actively participate in development sessions with peers, refining and exploring issues related to their research, and to present to peers and professionals from around Calgary about the findings of her research.
In the Studies Abroad Program Sociology in Colima she experienced first hand living in Mexico for six weeks, being completely immersed in the local culture, using local transportation and facilities, whilst completing three university courses. This included completing an independent research study focused on a local public transportation station. While abroad the students worked in groups to complete various projects, and class presentations.
