Sociology Graduate Student Caucus Scholarly Presentation Seminars & Writing Workshops

Graduate Student Writing Workshops (1st and 3rd Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45 in SS921)

This is a forum to give and provide feedback to one another on various types of research documents. A faculty member of the Graduate Studies Committee will coordinate and guide the sessions. A wide variety of documents may be discussed and reviewed, including, for example, grant proposals, manuscripts for journal submission, abstracts for conference submission, and various types of work in progress.

SGSC Scholarly Presentation Seminars (2nd Thursday and 4th Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45 in SS921)

These seminars are created by students for fellow students through a committee of the SGSC, incorporating both presentation and critical review components. Presentation formats can be either mini-lectures or panels to allow for variety and accommodate skill development in different settings. Scheduled topics include, for example, how to run a tutorial, how to give powerful PowerPoint presentations, practicing presentations for the Annual Criminology meetings and how to communicate your work to different audiences.
