The study of culture in sociology generally concerns the role of meanings and symbols in social life as embodied in social practices, material objects, and texts and narratives. Sociologists working in this area may study the production and consumption of cultural objects such as music, visual art, or food. They may also study how cultural structures inform people’s beliefs and actions through ideologies, discourses, or cognitive schema.
