Kevin's research and teaching interests bridge Criminology and Sociology of Sport. He has served on the editorial boards of several journals, currently edits the book series 'Research in the Sociology of Sport' (Emerald Press), and served two elected 4-year terms as Vice President of the international body in the field (International Sociology of Sport Association, 2000-2008). Recent/ongoing funded research projects include 'Social Development and Peace through Sport' (Ministry of Education, Government. of Japan) and 'Violence in Canadian Ice Hockey: An Examination of Social Tolerance Toward a Culturally Protected Phenomenon' (SSHRC). Kevin grew up in the north of England, where he became a passionate fan of Liverpool Football Club. He played varsity rugby on both sides of the Atlantic and continues to dabble, often injured, in a number of recreational sports.
